that's a great question, shannon. hemp is a plant that can be used for lots of different things. the flowers do produce thc, which is the chemical that causes people to feel high. but some strands of hemp produce more thc than others, and it's only if the plant is brought to flower.

if the plant is pollinated and produces seeds, those seeds are particularly high in essential fatty acids and fiber. they have a great buttery taste but don't contain thc and therefore don't get you high. the stem of the plant is also used to it's fiber, which is woven into fabric or rope.

hope that helps!

You should try making pesto with dandelion greens from the yard. I think you would love it. I have been picking them right before we mow, washing them really well (no one likes to eat dog pee) and throw em into the blender with some nuts (i have used walnuts or cashews), garlic, salt, pepper, a little mint/oregano, olive oil (or when I didnt have any nuts or olive oil I used some tofu) and some water. Blend it all up into yummy goodness and eat on everything.
